You will ALWAYS have people who dislike films like this; to make a film this potent and powerful is to make a film that is going to be extremely controversial, and I'm sure that is exactly what the writers and directors foresaw in the making of this film.
That being said, you can FEEL their vision with every single frame of this absolute masterpiece, and Phoenix not only gives the best performance of his life, but also takes the character of the Joker to a place we have never seen him before, and he takes society with him.
The question of Phoenix vs Ledger will be no doubt raging within the coming months and years after this film's release. The fact is that the question is void because of the fact that they portray COMPLETELY different aspects of the Joker's persona, and both portray is masterfully. However, Phoenix's portrayal goes much deeper than Ledger's at least on an emotional level, which is all I shall say in that regard.
The visceral assault of emotions I experienced during this film was unlike anything I've ever felt or experienced in my life. To portray such a traditionally psychotic character in such an emotional, and even sympathetic way, depending on your outlook, is an unbelievable feat.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and of course that is okay; people and critics are going to dislike this film, that is their opinion. But to deny that this film is anything other than a masterpiece would sadly be false, and I absolutely applaud everyone involved in this absolute work of art.
